God Knows Your Greatness

Scripture Reference:

Genesis 1:26–28 (KJV)

“And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness… So, God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them…And God blessed them.”

The mirror does not lie.
Often, it is too honest.

Whether we are checking to see if those new jeans are fitting in all the right places or looking at the back of a fresh haircut, we are naturally programmed to search for flaws.

The extra crease in the jeans.
The one curly hair coil that has a mind of its own.
The eyeliner that is slightly crooked.

We notice the imperfections before we notice the beautiful creation looking back at us.

When God set out to form the earth from a dark and empty void, He lit the sky, moved upon the waters, divided them from each other, created day from night, and prepared a place for His greatest creation.

You.

Out of everything God created, you are the only creation He formed in His image and likeness.

His image…

The image of the One who created the earth beneath your feet and the air filling your lungs as you read today’s devotional.

God made us in His image and likeness, which means we carry reflections of our Father within us. And our Father represents greatness. So why do we so often doubt the greatness within ourselves? Why do we question whether we are wonderfully and fearfully made?

Too often, we focus on our flaws.
We see the areas that need improvement.
We replay our failures, insecurities, and mistakes.

But we do not always stop to recognize our genius, our creativity, our beauty, our kindness, our mercy, or the grace we extend to others.

We do not always see ourselves the way others see us.

We do not always recognize the light we carry into dark places or how our presence can shift the atmosphere of a room. Not because of greatness in our own strength, but because of the greatness of God within us.

God resides in you.

So, when doubt creeps in…
When thoughts of inferiority whispers into your ears…
When low self-esteem tries to convince you that you are not enough…
Or when past mistakes attempt to make you believe your life has lost its value…

Remember this:

You were created in greatness.

You are an image-bearer of Christ.

And no matter what has formed against you, it shall not prosper.

The Bible tells us that no weapon formed against us shall prosper. And perhaps part of the reason is because even the things formed against us were never outside of God’s knowledge or permission. If God allowed it, then He also equipped us with the strength, grace, and resilience to endure it.

Because remember you are not only walking in the image of God, but in the greatness of God.

You are worthy of greater.
You are worthy of more.

You are worthy of peace.
Of joy.
Of abundance.

Of love.

Remember this today:

You are great.

Prayer:

Father God,

You are great and decided to share your greatness with me, by creating me in your image. Thank you for loving all of me. Knowing my imperfections and only seeing the version of me that you created.

The version of me that you thought was worth dying for.

Today, I give you every corrupted thought of myself, every thought that robs me of joy, and devalues my life to what I think is possible. I seek what You have planned for me. You value me above every other creation and I am grateful!

In Jesus name,
Amen.
